The rise of the Dictators

week 11 day 1

·         Prior to WWI , countries had been split into two main groups or fractions. In th 1930’s a strong movement was underwayto bring “FACISM” into modern government

·         Facism : a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are nto allowed to disagree with the government :very harsh control of authority.

·         In the hopes that the food will replenish themselves , they killed their king  , Louis the 16th and Mary Anttoinette.

·         Trisonà to alliminate any opposition

·         New alliances are forming , now between democracies and dictatorships

·         Main features of a democracy:

-          Everybody can vote and help choose a government

-          Voters have a choice between parties

-          Government power and terms are limited

-          Everybody , including the government must obey the laws of the land

-          Individual and cooperate freedom.

·         Communist dictatorships were in place now (USSR) for the first time. The new China government (Kuo Ming Tang ) is dealing with both a Japanese incursion and the onslaught of internal communist undermining.

·         Japan , Italy , Germanyà axis powers

·         Common wealthà when all the country get together and combine their resources.

·         Greater East Asia Co ifen prosperity sphere

·         Communisim à all men make the same. All the blongs to the government

Week 11 day 2 (Rise of the Dictators)

·         Summing up Germany in 1930’s”

-          Kaiser Wilhelm abdicated and fled to Holland creating a vacuum.

-          It was crushed by the TOV : economic burden from war repairations , loos of major industrial areas.

-          Weimar Republic , new, unstable

-          Rampant poverty, reduction of GNP

-          Great Depression , stock market collapse USA

-          Failed harvest

-          France seized MORE territory when Germany failed to make payments in 1923 (coal areas)

-          Nazi party begins .. National Socialist Wrokers Party

-          They had a solution.

-          A young man , poor started to joining meetings , named Hitler

-          By 1932 , the Nazi Party was the largest in the Reichstag  (German’s Parliament).

-          In 1933 , the President of Germany (Hidenburg)appointed Hitler as a Chancellor (Prime Minister ). (This was a trick by the Nazis , Find out how they did it)

-          The Nazi Party was not started by Hitler.

-          Media was taken over (goebbles)

-          Education was modified to political purpose

-          Jews became targets (in 1941 , Jews became the “enemied of the state” and were rounded up for prison camps as well.. see holocaust)

-          In 1933 Hitler and the Pope signed a “concordat”.. Agreement , for the Pope to recognize Hitlet’s government and Hitler to allow the Church to remain in Germany.

-          Prora : 4.5 kilometers , 10 000 rooms

-          Re-arrangement begins

-          Proclamation of Freedom to Rearm Rally in 1935.
